A Rome police officer was involved in a fatal wreck on Redmond Circle at the Gala Shopping Center Monday morning.

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

A 2002 Mazda Protégé pulled out of a private lot onto Redmond and collided with a 2015 GMC Sierra.

The driver of the Mazda, 66-year-old Tammie Pickelsimer of Rome was transported to the hospital and died from her injuries.

The Sierra was driven by a Rome Police Officer, who was responding to a bomb squad call.

The Rome News-Tribune reports that the bomb squad was sent out after an email sent Monday to the Rome Police Department stating that a person had left a pipe bomb in the mailbox of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Rome residence and that if anyone opened the mailbox then the bomb would go off.

The source of the email was traced to a Russian IP address, Greene’s office stated.

Greene made the following post on her social media regarding the incident:

*** Tuesday morning, the Rome Police Department provided an update on Monday’s fatal wreck involving a Rome Police officer. See their statement in the WRGA article linked below:
