The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced yesterday that Rome Sports has been selected to host the DIII Men’s & Women’s Tennis Championships for the 2027- 2028 season.
The championship will take place at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College, May 22-30, 2028.
“Over the past decade, we have cultivated our relationship with NCAA and are elated they have recognized our ability and experience to host a national championship,” said Ann Hortman, Director of Rome Sports. “Our partnership with Rome Tennis Center, Berry College, the community-at-large, and our incredible collegiate fan base ensures an unrivaled and memorable championship experience for the student-athletes like no other.”
“We are thrilled with the news that Rome will be hosting the DIII Tennis National Championship in 2028,” said Colt Gaston, Rome Tennis Center at Berry College, General Manager. “The City of Rome has worked incredibly hard to get this phenomenal facility built and this type of event is exactly what they envisioned when making it happen.

“This is an amazing event for our community,” stated Jamie McCord, Floyd County Manager. “Hosting the NCAA DIII teams and student-athletes who are at the top of their game will be quite an experience for all of Rome and Floyd County.”
Championship Week will consist of an eight-team, single-elimination tournament per gender. The individual singles and doubles championships consist of a bracket of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams per gender in a single-elimination tournament.
This is the fourth time the NCAA conducted a comprehensive championship bid process, spanning 87 championships across a two-year cycle. Previously, selection announcements varied by sport. This process gives the NCAA and host sites more time to plan each championship experience.
Bidding for 87 of 90 NCAA championships began in September 2023 and more than 1,200 bid applications were ultimately submitted. Each sports committee, per division, selected the host sites it believed would provide the ultimate experience for the respective student-athletes, resulting in more than 240 total championship event sites being awarded.
Rome was one of three cities selected in the state of Georgia. More than 54,000 student-athletes compete in NCAA championships each year.
