A 35-year-old Rome man is facing multiple charges after causing a lockdown Tuesday afternoon at Rome High and Rome Middle Schools.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Police attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Dalton Reese Clay after he pointed a BB gun that looked like an AR-15 rifle at another motorist.
Clay fled from a traffic stop, reaching speeds of 95 miles per hour on Veterans Memorial Highway.
He drove in and out of school traffic on Wolf Drive and the schools went into lockdown.
Clay then fled on foot into the woods where he was found with a large machete.
Clay is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, carrying a weapon on school grounds, loitering in a school safety zone, disrupting a public school, aggravated assault, aggressive driving, reckless driving, speeding, obstruction of officers, driving on the wrong side of the road, and driving with a cracked windshield.
