Floyd County Schools released the following press release on Wednesday afternoon:
“Floyd County Schools has continued to work closely with state and local officials today and due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Helene, we are taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our students and staff. After weather briefings and several meetings regarding the weather, please note the following changes to our schedule:
- After-School Activities Canceled: All after-school activities scheduled for Thursday, September 26th, are canceled.
- School Closure: Schools will be closed on Friday, September 27th.
- After-school activities for both Friday and Saturday are TBD based on weather, power outages, roads, etc. Communication will take place for those events.
- The biggest impact from the storm is slated to hit late Thursday night and into Friday morning, so we encourage everyone to stay safe and follow any guidance from local authorities regarding the storm.”
From Rome City Schools: “Rome City Schools continues to work closely with state and local officials as we monitor the impact of Hurricane Helene. At this time, we are planning to have normal operations on Thursday. Based on the latest information, school operations could be affected on Friday, Sept. 27. In alignment with our Keeping Schools Safe Initiative, Friday will be a Flexible Learning Day for all of Rome City Schools. There will be no after-school activities on Friday.”
From GNTC: “Due to expected severe weather, Georgia Northwestern Technical College will closing on Thursday, September 26, at 3:00 pm. The college will remain closed on Friday, September 27.”
From GHC: “In an abundance of caution, all Georgia Highlands College locations will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27, due to forecasted inclement weather.”
From Shorter University: “Due to the severe weather approaching North Georgia, the campus will be closed on Thursday, September 26, and Friday, September 27.”
From the Bartow County School System: “The Bartow County School System will be closed to all students and staff Thursday and Friday, September 26 and 27, 2024, due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Helene and the potential for hazardous conditions in our area. Extracurricular activities scheduled for Thursday, September 26, are canceled. We will continue to work closely with emergency management officials this week to determine if Friday and Saturday evening school events need to be rescheduled. Please expect a district update by Friday afternoon. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our school community and act with utmost caution.”
From Adiarsville High School: “There will be NO SCHOOL Thursday, 9/26, or Friday, 9/27, as a precaution, due to the potential of severe weather. All after school activities for Thursday are canceled. Friday night football will not be determined at this time. We will notify players and the community on Friday when we make the final decision. The following week we will be on Fall Break; therefore, AHS will be closed from now until Monday, October 7th. Please stay safe these next few days and have a restful Fall Break.”
From the Chattooga County School District: “Chattooga County Schools will be closed for all students and staff on Thursday, September 26, 2024, and Friday, September 27, 2024. In light of the potential for high winds, we recognize that having buses and our young drivers on the road presents a safety risk, which further necessitates this closure. All scheduled afternoon activities for today, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, will proceed as planned, but all school events for Thursday are canceled. The safety of our students, staff, and community is our highest priority. Chattooga County Schools is actively monitoring the storm’s path and collaborating with local emergency management agencies to coordinate response efforts. At this time, we anticipate that Friday evening and Saturday events will continue as scheduled; however, we will provide updates as necessary. We will continually assess conditions to ensure everyone’s safety. Please note that Learn from Home packets are not necessary during this State of Emergency weather event. We encourage our families and community members to stay safe and adhere to any advisories from local authorities. Please enjoy your fall break next week and we will see everyone on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.”
From the Polk County School District: “Based on conversations with state and local emergency management agencies regarding the incoming inclement weather from Hurricane Helene, Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27 will be Learn-from-Home days for all Polk School District campuses. Please refer to communication channels from your student’s respective school/teacher for guidance and expectations regarding assignments. A decision related to extracurricular activities/sporting events for Friday and Saturday will be announced at a later time. We apologize for the inconvenience, but will always make decisions in the best interest of our students and staff, keeping safety our first priority. Thank you for your continued support and stay safe.”
From the Gordon County Schools District: “Gordon County Schools will be closed for all students and staff on Thursday, September 26, 2024, and Friday, September 27, 2024. All Thursday school activities are canceled. The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our top priority. Gordon County Schools is working closely with local emergency management agencies and Calhoun City Schools to monitor the storm’s path and coordinate response efforts. At this time, we believe that Friday evening and Saturday events will continue as planned; however, we will provide updates if needed. We will continue to assess conditions to ensure the safety of all. We encourage our families and community members to stay safe and follow any advisories from local authorities.”
