Man charged with theft, obstruction of officers

A Silver Creek man is accused of stealing a vehicle from his former employer.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

34-year-old Cody Lee Barron took the rental vehicle, a 2024 Dodge Ram, after being fired.

The truck is valued at $47,000.

Barron was initially stopped by police at Dodd Boulevard and Highway 411 for a seat belt violation.

He then refused to show his license or get out of the vehicle.

Barron is charged with theft by taking and obstruction of law enforcement officers.

Man accused of lying to police about his location

An Aragon man was arrested Monday on a felony warrant charging him with false statements and writings.

According to the warrant:

46-year-old Roger Dale Barnhart told a police officer, who was investigating a hit-and-run accident in Floyd, that he was out of the state.

Barnhart was actually in the state and at work in Chickamauga.

He also told the officer that his vehicle had been stolen in Bartow County.

However, there was no incident report.

Man charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

A Coosa man has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon following an incident on Alabama Highway back on May 12.

According to an arrest warrant:

Floyd County Police responded to a ‘shots fired’ call in the area.

35-year old Robert Jacob Mize admitted that he shot a firearm three times.

Man transported from Arkansas to Floyd County to face sex offender registry violation

A 53-year-old Rome man has been arrested on a warrant charging him with violating Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry law.

According to the warrant:

Myles Covington III did not advise the sheriff’s office of his move from Chateau Drive to an unknown location in November of 2021.

Covington was transported from the St. Francis County, Arkansas Jail and booked into the Floyd County Jail on Monday.
