Warrant: Woman arrested after threat was overheard
A 29-year-old Rome woman is accused of making a threat while in class at Georgia Northwestern Technical College earlier this week.
According to an arrest warrant:
Victoria Jade Shafer said “I failed; makes me want to do meth again. Makes me want to shoot up a school.”
The statement was overheard by several witnesses including the instructor, who reported it to police.
The two other witnesses were so disturbed by what they heard, they returned after class just to make sure the instructor was aware of the incident.
Woman accused of making threat last Thursday
A 52-year-old Rome woman has been arrested on a felony warrant charging her with terroristic threats and acts.
According to the warrant:
Cherryle Lorrene Barrett threatened the death of others in the manner of becoming an active shooter.
The incident occurred last Thursday at Winthrop Manor on Chateau Drive.
Report: Man arrested after struggle over a gun
A Rome man is accused of pulling a gun on another man on Freeman Ferry Road on Tuesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
35-year-old Phillip Joseph Tardy drove to the victim’s home and remained there even after being asked to leave.
He then drew a revolver from his seat and attempted to point it at the victim.
As the two men struggled over the gun, Tardy started driving with the victim still in the window, causing injuries to the man’s legs.
Tardy told officers there was no gun, only to later admit that he put it back inside his home after the altercation.
He is charged with aggravated assault, false statements and writings, battery, criminal trespass, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended license.
Woman charged with elder neglect
A 24-year-old Cedartown woman has been arrested in connection with an incident at an apartment on Wilson Way back on August 17.
According to an arrest warrant:
Otmarah Jahil Kortram was supervising an elderly person and failed to assist the 82-year-old with proper placement in their recliner resulting in the victim falling to the floor.
The victim remained on the floor for approximately an hour before someone assisted her.
Kortram is charged with neglect of an elderly person.
Two alleged gang leaders facing charges
Two purported leaders in the Ghost Face Gangsters are accused of ordering violent crimes that occurred in July of 2022 on Woods Road.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
34-year-old Dustin Earl Cotton of Cedartown and 41-year-old Scotty Joel Venable of Rome supervised the crimes that were committed by two other gang members.
One member held the victim while the other struck the victim in the body and head with a metal object.
Cotton and Venable are charged with aggravated assault, participation in criminal street gang activity, false imprisonment, and battery.
Teen charged with fleeing or attempting to elude
A teenager is accused of fleeing from police in the area of the North Rome connector on Tuesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
A vehicle driven by 18-year-old Josue I. Cux-Chay was clocked going 71 in a 45-mile-per-hour zone while failing to maintain a lane and failing to stop for police.
He was also driving with a learner’s permit while unaccompanied.
Cux-Chay is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, speeding, failure to maintain a lane, reckless driving, expired license, violation of license class, no license on person, and DUI.
Warrant: Inmate had mother deliver tobacco to work detail
A 30-year-old Watkinsville man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with possession of items prohibited for an inmate.
According to the warrant:
Jeremy Dale Ponder, while an inmate at the Floyd County Prison in October of last year, had his mother deliver three pounds of pipe tobacco and four cans of smokeless tobacco to a predetermined location on Cedartown Highway, where he was on a work detail.
Woman charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
A 55-year-old Rome woman was arrested Tuesday on a felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Kathy Yvonne Cook had a firearm that was located on the couch of the Maple Avenue residence where she was sitting.
