Man charged in knife assault

A 33-year-old West Rome man is accused of assaulting his brother-in-law Saturday at a residence on Williamsburg Drive.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Ricardo Ruiz Guzman used a pocket knife to cut the victim just below the throat.

He also punched the victim in the face.

Guzman is charged with aggravated assault.

Man charged with child molestation, statutory rape

A 21-year-old Rome man was arrested over the weekend at his Dodd Boulevard apartment on charges of child molestation and statutory rape.

According to the arrest warrants:

Derrick Cole Walraven and the female under the age of 16 were half-clothed in the kitchen area of the home and were caught by the victim’s grandmother.

Woman accused of failing to return rented U-Haul

A Fort Pierce, Florida woman was booked into the Floyd County Jail Sunday on a felony warrant charging her with theft by conversion.

According to the warrant:

38-year-old Melissa Ann Nelson rented a trailer from the U-Haul business on Shorter Avenue on May 12 and was supposed to return it four days later.

The trailer, valued at $12,000, has never been returned or recovered.

Four charged with felony shoplifting

Four people were arrested Sunday at the East Rome Walmart on felony shoplifting charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

36-year-old Francisco Manuel Mendez of Rome, 33-year-old Cynthia Marcela Banuelos of Lindale, 50-year-old Kevin Ray Allmon, and 48-year-old Shonie Rebecca Allmon, both of Rockmart, concealed $672.95 in merchandise in shopping bags and left the store.

Man accused of breaking cell phone

A Rome man is facing a felony 2nd-degree criminal damage to property charge following his arrest over the weekend.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

24-year-old John Austin Weatherby can be seen on video throwing and breaking the victim’s cell phone, valued at $599.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A traffic stop on Blacks Bluff Road at Park Road ended with the arrest of a Silver Creek man on drug charges Saturday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

35-year-old Nicholas Andrew Jones was stopped for driving with no tag lights.

A K9 indication led to a search that turned up Vyvanse and alprazolam pills inside a melatonin bottle, along with a marijuana pipe.

A .45 handgun was also located under the driver’s seat.

Jones is charged with possession of Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substances, possession of drugs not in the original container, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug-related objects, and a tag light violation.

Man accused of having marijuana at jail

A 37-year-old East Rome man is facing drug charges following his arrest early Monday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Loiton Dyrus Mercer Jr. was initially arrested after less than an ounce of marijuana was found in his backpack.

He also had to gabapentin pills and two glass smoking devices.

Once at the jail, he was found with suspected marijuana.

Mercer is charged with a felony count of possession of drugs past the guard line, and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana, possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of drug-related objects.
