Cartersville High School went into two lockdowns after receiving phone calls threatening the School on Monday morning.
The Cartersville Police Department reportedly received a call that there was an armed person at Cartersville High School.
The school immediately enacted lockdown procedures and the campus was investigated by police for potential threats. CHS Parents were contacted regarding the lockdown.
After it was determined that there was no present threat at the school, Cartersville police officers lifted the lockdown. Cartersville Police Chief Frank McCann stated to WBHF Radio that there was never a gun or a threat inside the school.
Around 10:20 AM, Cartersville Police received another threatening phone call after the initial lockdown was lifted forcing the school to undergo another lockdown with law enforcement still present on campus.
The Cartersville Police Department released the following statement later on Monday afternoon:
“On Monday, October 16, 2023, at approximately 8:05 A.M., officers with the Cartersville Police Department were made aware of a possible armed person at Cartersville High School (CHS).
Threats were made toward the safety of the students, and CHS immediately enacted lockdown procedures.
Officers responded swiftly to CHS and meticulously cleared the campus in search of any possible threat. There was none located.
Additional officers will remain stationed at the school, with the SRO, for an extended period as the school resumes normal operations.”
