Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene speaks during the 2022 GOP rally

As the annual Floyd County GOP Tillman Rally rolls around this weekend, the primary focus is on increasing local voter turnout.

The rally will take place Saturday morning at the Palladium on the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds, starting at 9:30 a.m.

“We noticed that voter turnout has been low for both Republicans and Democrats the last few election cycles,” said Floyd County GOP Executive Committee Chairman Jamie Palmer. “So our goal is to help increase turnout by 2%.”

The centerpiece of the rally will continue to be various speakers but training on social media, canvassing, minority outreach, and how to help grow the party are also on the agenda.

Palmer said the list of speakers includes 14th District U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, state Sen. Chuck Hufstetler, and state Reps. Katie Dempsey, Eddie Lumsden Matt Barton, and Floyd County Sheriff Dave Roberson.

Local Republican candidates vying for nonpartisan seats on the Rome City Commission and Cave Spring City Council are also expected to be in attendance.

Palmer said they will have training conducted by Lesix Media and Faith and Freedom Foundation. There will also be presentations on getting out the vote, poll watching, and a Project USA discussion.

The event will start at 9:30 a.m. with speakers beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. and the training sessions start at 11:30 a.m.

Attendance is limited, and all attendees are required to register at the RomeRally.Gopwebsite.

The party is also hosting a training event provided by the Leadership Institute on how to make a lasting impact and promote conservative values.

It will be on Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Courtyard Rome Riverwalk at 320 W. Third St. Prospective attendees can register online at LiTraining.org. The cost is free if a registrant uses the code GALEAD, otherwise, the event costs $15.
