The Floyd County Commission has adopted a resolution supporting applications under the Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant opportunity for the Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor.
“We’ve been working for some time with Cartersville and Bartow County on the 411 connection to I-75,” McCord told the commission. “GDOT is experiencing significant increases in construction costs. They anticipate 23 percent between last year and this year, and they are anticipating that again next year.”
According to McCord, there are a lot of federal grants available that have a deadline of August 21. With Cartersville and Bartow taking the lead with their transportation planning office and MPO, they asked for the resolution to support their resolution to get as many funds as possible to keep that 411 to I-75 project going.
“I do believe that GDOT will fully fund this project if the timing is still accurate,” McCord said. “This is just an opportunity to grab some funding to possibly move the project along a little quicker.”
