Tuesday, June 20, 2023–12:15 p.m.

-Rome Police Department Report-

The Rome Police Department has released the incident report regarding two people who were struck by a train over the weekend.

Officers were dispatched to the railroad tracks behind Goodwill on Hicks Drive just before 9 p.m. Saturday and found a woman laying on the gravel next to the train with serious injuries.

A man was also located lying on a pillar of the trestle.

The train conductor told police he saw the two on the tracks on the river bridge and blew the horn while attempting to slow down.

However, according to the train’s engineer, because the tracks were on a bridge, the two would have had to jump off to be safe.

31-year-old Jessia Lenzi-Cathryn Collins and 40-year-old Michael Cody Doi were struck by the snow plow on the front of the lead engine.

They were transported to Atrium Health Floyd for treatment.
