On Friday afternoon the Rome-Floyd Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at the Grove Apartment Complex at 600 Redmond Road.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found that flames and smoke could be seen billowing out of the F block apartment building.
Residents from 12 units of the F block were able to be evacuated at the scene including multiple animals. One person was evaluated by EMS with mild burns and was transported. Unfortunately, one animal, a dog, passed away due to injuries sustained from the fire.
4 of the 12 apartment units were able to get power restored so that residents could return to their homes, but 8 units will remain without power. The American Red Cross has been contacted to provide aid to those residents affected.
