On Thursday morning a crowd gathered on Clocktower Hill to kick off celebrations for the 150th Year of the Rome Clocktower.
The program for the event featured music played by the Rome High School band, as well as historical reenactment speakers who spoke about the history of the iconic Rome Clocktower.
The Clocktower which is 26 ft in diameter, and 60 ft in height, once held up to 250,000 gallons of water. After the City of Rome created a filter station at Jackson Hill, the water tower inside was no longer utilized the same way.
According to Doug Walker, the 150-year celebration looks to continue to hold events throughout 2022.
