STAFF REPORTS
The Rome City Commission has approved a contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation related to the long-awaited widening of North 2nd Avenue next to the levee.
The contract deals with utility work that would have to be done before construction on the widening project can take place, according to Rome City Manager Sammy Rich.
“As is typical in these projects when we work with the state, when we have to relocate, or in this case, upgrade and move water facilities, we are required to pay for those improvements as part of the project,” Rich said. What we have before us is a project of $428,840, and that work would be performed by whichever contractor is going to be on board for this job and under the GDOT contract. So, we will not do the work, they will, but this is the normal relationship.”
In other action Monday, no one spoke for or against the City of Rome’s draft budgets, which were placed onto First Reading.
