A Chattooga County man was one of two individuals who lost their lives in a devastating traffic crash that occurred late Wednesday night.

According to the Georgia State Patrol Public Information Office, the incident occurred on October 16, 2024, at approximately 11:23 PM on Highway 27, just south of Old Lee School Road. The sequence of events began when Walker 911 issued a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) alert at 11:08 PM for a wrong-way driver reportedly traveling north in the southbound lanes of Highway 27. Five minutes later, emergency services were notified of a crash involving a vehicle on fire.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered a harrowing scene. Their investigation revealed that a Chevrolet truck, heading north in the southbound lanes, collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla traveling south. The force of the impact caused the Chevrolet to rotate counterclockwise, partially entering the median and becoming engulfed in flames. Meanwhile, the Toyota Corolla also spun counterclockwise and came to a stop facing north in the southbound lanes, with the driver trapped inside.

Despite the prompt response from emergency personnel, both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene. Troopers were able to confirm that one of the fatalities was 30-year-old Levi Brown of Menlo.  The other man was not able to be identified immediately.  His body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for identification.

The Georgia State Patrol Post in LaFayette continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
