Rome police are still seeking several suspects in a shooting Sunday night in West Rome that left three people injured.

Police responded to a call of shots being fired near 66 Lyons Drive at 9:44 p.m. Sunday. E-911 notified responders that three people had been taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

“There were multiple bystanders in the area, most of which stated they did not see anything but heard gunshots,” the Rome Police Department report stated. “One bystander stated that she did not see the shooting, but saw people running from the tree line next to the pavilion.”

Police and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office deputies searched the area and found four .45 caliber shell casings along a fence line of a group of apartments on Tamassee Lane near where the shooting took place.

During that investigation, police noticed a 15-year-old boy in the area. One of the officers reported, “he saw the male with a bulge in his pocket and when he asked the male to show his hands and lift his shirt the male ran away from him.” The officer said he believes the juvenile fled and tossed whatever it was he had on him, but in an initial search, police did not find anything linked to the shooting.

They then took the 15-year-old to the police station.

According to Rome Police Department Public Information Officer Kelly Madden, three people were treated and released from the hospital. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and are looking for several suspects.
