Northwest Georgia braces for tropical storm as “Helene” intensifies

WRGA Staff Reports –

According to Floyd County Emergency Management’s Tim Herrington, Tropical Storm Helene is expected to intensify into a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) earlier than anticipated for Northwest Georgia.

While Helene’s effects are not expected until Thursday night into the early morning hours, the community should prepare for possible severe weather conditions.

Weather Forecast:

Wednesday: Expect scattered showers with periods of heavy rain up to 2 inches in the afternoon. These showers are unrelated to Tropical Storm Helene.

Thursday Night – Friday Morning: As Helene makes landfall, potential hazards include heavy rainfall, flash flooding, strong winds, power outages, and downed trees.

Preparation and Safety:

Residents are encouraged to take precautions by securing outdoor items, preparing for power outages, and monitoring WRGA weather updates.
