Friday afternoon Floyd County Emergency Management reported an accident involving a dump truck and a power pole at the intersection of Highway 53 and Shannon Road NE.
The incident with the dump truck caused the power pole to snap, bringing down power lines across the roadway and forcing a complete closure of all lanes on Highway 53 in the area.
Floyd County emergency management also reported that a small grass fire was ignited after the power pole snapped.
Outbound traffic from Rome was detoured onto West Hermitage Road, while inbound drivers were forced to make a U-turn back onto Highway 53 (or get off the highway onto Shannon Road NE).
The accident resulted in power outages for many surrounding residents, and also AT&T internet service disruptions.
