Man charged with vehicular homicide in crash that killed two on Saturday

A 30-year-old South Rome man remains jailed without bond after being charged with two counts of felony vehicular homicide in a weekend crash that killed two people on Turner McCall Boulevard near Reservoir Street.

According to the arrest warrants:

Omar Alejandro Garcia was traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone in a 2018 Dodge Charger.

His vehicle slammed head-on into a 2000 Honda Accord, killing Kadrian Lamiracle Harris of Rome and Malik Christyle Henderson of Lindale.

A one-year-old child in the Honda was seriously injured.

Garcia is also accused of failing to stop for police before the crash.

He is also charged with serious injury by vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, too fast for conditions, DUI, and driving without a license.

He is also being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A Rome man has been arrested and charged in a crash that claimed the lives of two people early Saturday morning on Turner McCall Boulevard.

According to Rome Police:

At around 1:37 a.m., an officer observed a black Dodge Charger turning east from Lavender Drive onto Shorter Avenue.

The vehicle was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.

The officer initiated a pursuit of the suspect vehicle.

However, the Charger quickly vanished, prompting the officer to discontinue a pursuit and issue a lookout to all nearby units. 

Moments later, another officer, traveling south on Riverside Parkway, spotted the Charger at a distance still speeding eastbound on Turner McCall Boulevard.

Upon activating emergency lights and attempting to follow the Charger, the officer arrived at the scene of a severe head-on collision involving the Charger and a Honda Accord. 

Afterward, it was discovered that the fleeing vehicle was a Redeye edition – which is equipped with a supercharger and generates 797 horsepower.

Tragically, the collision resulted in the deaths of the driver of the Honda, Kadrian Harris, and a passenger in the Honda, Malik Hendersonas . A third occupant, a 1-year-old child was critically injured.

The occupants of the Charger sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized.

The driver of the Dodge, Omar Alejandro Garcia is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of serious injury by vehicle, DUI, driving without a license, fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, and driving too fast for conditions.
