Four people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on I-75 near Red Top Mountain Road Sunday evening.
According to the Georgia State Patrol:
Preliminary evidence at the scene indicates that a Kia van was traveling northbound on I-75 when, for reasons yet to be determined, it left the roadway, crossed the grass median, and entered the southbound lanes of I-75. The Kia van collided with a Chevy Tahoe and a Toyota 4Runner. Following this initial collision, the Kia van, and the Toyota 4Runner were struck by a commercial vehicle. Additionally, a Hyundai SUV struck the rear of the Chevy Tahoe.
Three occupants of the Kia van were pronounced deceased at the scene, including one juvenile. Two other juveniles from the Kia van were transported to the hospital. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner also sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was transported by helicopter to the hospital. Additionally, one juvenile and one adult from the Hyundai SUV were transported to the hospital.
According to WBHF Radio in Cartersville, the names of those who were killed were 43-year-old Dakarai Mason, 35-year-old Erin Mason, 15-year-old Brandon Crawford, and 21-year-old Aimee Odom.
All were from Cartersville.
The wreck occurred after 6 p.m. and closed the southbound lanes of the interstate for several hours.
