Hundreds of people gathered for Rome’s most fun and festive 5K event which took place on Saturday evening in the downtown area.
The 2024 Leprechaun-a-thon 5K and Health Walk presented by Atrium Health Floyd and the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation Department began on First Avenue just down from Bridgepoint Plaza.
The race route included portions of the Kingfisher Trail and the trails on the levee before it finished on the pedestrian footbridge just before the Town Green and the Forum.
Crowds gathered and cheered on racers as they crossed the finish line.
Children and parents were able to enjoy a large bubble foam area on the town green as the health walk participants continued to pour in.
Special awards were given to the top three finishers in various age groups, overall male and female winners, master’s winners, and grandmasters winners.
According to event organizers the Leprechaun-a-thon, which is a USATF-certified event, serves as a qualifier for the upcoming Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta.
