Paulding County Fire & Rescue –
On Tuesday morning (around 9:33 AM) Paulding County 911 received a call that a quarry worker had fallen 20 feet into a construction materials hopper.
Coworkers told 911 Communication Officers that the worker was buried up to his head in gravel, and they could hear him moaning.
Approximately 8 minutes later, Paulding Fire Engine 4 arrived on the scene, confirming the entrapment and requesting additional units respond.
Within moments, several units from Paulding County Fire & Rescue arrived and asked for mutual aid from Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services’ Collapse Rescue Squad.
5 hours later the 30-year-old male was extricated from tons of gravel but was conscious and alert.
A life flight helicopter flew the 30-year-old to Grady Hospital, where he is in stable condition and expected to recover from his injuries.
Paulding County Fire and Rescue thanked the collaboration by both fire departments, EMS assistance from Metro EMS & AirLife, City of Dallas Public Works, and Paulding County DOT.
