An eleven-year-old Fairmount boy died in a car crash on highway 41 in Bartow on Tuesday.
According to preliminary reports from the Georgia State Patrol, troopers responded to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 41 at Mac Johnson Road.
Following an investigation of the scene and after speaking with multiple witnesses, it was determined that a white Nissan Altima was traveling north on highway 41 in the left lane. A black Dodge Ram was stopped on the highway in the southbound left turning lane. When the light turned yellow, the driver of the black Dodge, twenty-eight-year-old Jontay Henderson, failed to yield to the Nissan and attempted to turn left onto Mac Johnson Road. The Dodge struck the left side of the Nissan within the intersection.
Following impact, the Nissan rotated counterclockwise, off the east shoulder and down an embankment.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to Kennestone Hospital via helicopter.
The left rear passenger, which was the eleven-year-old, was transported to Piedmont Cartersville Medical, where he succumbed to his injuries.
