Man Arrested for Arson in Cartersville

WRGA Staff Reports –

According to a report by the Cartersville Police Department:

On Monday, May 23, 2022, at approximately 5:09 PM, police and fire personnel were dispatched to the area of 106 South Tennessee Street, in reference to a dumpster on fire.

When officers arrived on the scene they met with the Cartersville Fire Department.

Cartersville Fire Department stated the dumpster fire was the result of arson. Officers began to investigate by speaking with local businesses and observing video footage.

While observing footage, a male matching the description of the suspect who started the fire walked on the scene. He was identified as Homer Abernathy.

Mr. Abernathy was subsequently identified as the suspect who started the fire and was taken into custody.

Mr. Abernathy was arrested and charged with Arson in the 3rd Degree.

Mr. Abernathy is currently being held at the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
