Rome City Commission meets Monday

April 24, 2022–12:06 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Rome City Commission will consider a rezoning request for the former Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital property when they meet Monday night.

The Rome-Floyd County Development Authority is seeking a change in zoning from office institutional to heavy industrial.

In September of last year, the development authority announced that the State of Georgia had accepted their offer to purchase the property, which will be used for economic development.

The rezoning request is one of a number of public hearings on the agenda for tonight’s meeting.

Also Monday, the commission will consider a recommendation from the Rome Alcohol Control Commission to require security at pouring establishments and package stores, who are not POST-certified police officers, to have an alcohol sales permit.

A background investigation is required to obtain this sales permit, and convicted felons are prohibited from receiving the permit under most circumstances.

There has been a recent incident of two individuals working as security guards, and these individuals were found to be not only convicted felons but in possession of firearms as convicted felons.

The awarding of a paving contract for Riverside Parkway and East First Street to NW Georgia Paving, Inc. is also on the agenda for the meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall.

During the caucus, which begins at 5 p.m., the commission will hear a presentation from Justin Deal, PFLAG Rome Chapter/Rome Pride Committee Board member.
