On Tuesday morning Probate Judge Steve Burkhalter held the swearing-in of the new five-member Floyd County Board of Elections Chairman Jerry Lee, Ralph Davis, Pam Peters, Gary Stamper, and Corey Townsend.
After the swearing-in process was complete, the board later met at the Floyd County Administration Building in the community room for their first public meeting.
Topics on the agenda included the status of the move to the Health Department building on East 12th Street, and discussing potential voting locations (specifically for a new West Rome precinct, and also early voting locations).
In addition to those topics, poll workers training and recruitment were also discussed. Chairman Jerry Lee stated that they will soon look into hiring around 160 poll workers to work the machines in the 25 precincts.
Corey Townsend was nominated as interim vice-chair for the Floyd County Board of Elections.
The public was also able to participate in making their concerns known; one common concern shared was the ability to change the time of the meetings to the evening so that more members of the working public could attend. The board expressed that the time of the meetings could be modified once the Floyd County election by-laws had been established.
