NASA says they are aware of a bright fireball seen by many in the southeastern United States Tuesday evening.
The sky show was caused by a small fragment of an asteroid burning up in the sky above Georgia and Alabama.
The meteor was first seen at an altitude of 55 miles above Taylorsville in Bartow County, moving northwest at 38,500 miles per hour.
The object traveled over 91 miles before disintegrating just to the southeast of Huntsville, Alabama.
The fireball’s light was dimmed by the overcast, so a size estimate is not possible at this time.
