In the aftermath of complaints of racial harassment at Coosa High School, school system officials sat down for a discussion with the local NAACP on Wednesday.
Attendees included Floyd County Board of Education chair, Dr. Tony Daniel and Floyd County Schools superintendent, Dr. Glenn White, along with Rome/Floyd NAACP Branch president Sara Malone, first vice president Larry Morrow, second vice president and chair of the legal redress committee Charles Love, and other members of the local NAACP.
Floyd Floyd County Schools:
“They discussed, in detail, FCBOE policies and procedures along with student and staff development programs to ensure FCS offers equitable and safe school environments for all, regardless of race, color, gender, or national origin. A consensus was reached on the importance of families reinforcing these lessons in the home.
Dr. White and Dr. Daniel emphasized FCS’s commitment to full implementation and continued maintenance of the Positive Action curriculum that started at the beginning of this school year, as well as staff development regarding the continuance of a school climate in which students can thrive and thrive.
FCS welcomed the Rome/Floyd NAACP’s invitation to meet regularly to discuss equality and progress within the school district as well as any issues or concerns. Both organizations reiterated the importance of the partnership to keep the safety and well-being of children in Rome and Floyd County a main priority.”
Love told the Rome News-Tribune it was really good first meeting and called it the first step in a long process.
