(Via WEIS Radio) One Gaylesville Alabama man’s intoxicated joy ride ended in handcuffs after he damaged crops in several different farmers’ fields this past weekend.
On July 17th, Officers on patrol were dispatched to Price Bridge Road due to someone trespassing in some agricultural fields. When Deputies arrived on the scene they observed several cars parked along the roadway with people standing around and a heated argument ensued.
First meeting with Brody Shane Bailey of Gaylesville, Alabama, it was noted that Bailey appeared to be intoxicated and when questioned stated that “he had one or two beers”. While trying to gather information, Deputies eventually had to place Bailey in the back of the patrol car due to his inability to comply with demands to be quiet.
Witnesses on the scene stated that Brody Shane Bailey had first been spotted just across the state line in Cherokee, Alabama where he was making rounds in a field belonging to James Robinson. Robinson had followed Bailey into Georgia where he observed Bailey entering a soybean field belonging to Steve Brewer. Bailey traveled the distance of the field and then begin to cut donuts in the field causing damage to the crops. He then entered another field, planted in cotton and belonging to Greg Hurley and Garrett Hurley, where his vehicle finally had gotten stuck.
Several witnesses saw Bailey enter both fields and gave the Deputies statements. After speaking with the landowners who estimated the cost of damages to be around $5,000 in one field and $2,500 in another, Deputies placed Broday Shane Bailey under arrest and charged him with 2 counts of Criminal Damage to Property in the second degree.
Gills towing was called to remove the vehicle, which was stuck several rows deep in the cotton fields, and Bailey was transported to the Chattooga County Jail. Chattooga County Sheriff Deputies sent the offender’s information over to the Cherokee County Sheriffs Office in Alabama so that they could pursue charges in regards to Mr. Robinsons’ field being damaged.
