A designated entry to Floyd Medical Center’s Family Birth Center will make it more convenient and comfortable for mothers arriving at the hospital to give birth. A ribbon-cutting was held today to celebrate the entry on the north side of the hospital near the Emergency Care Center (ECC).
Expectant mothers who have a scheduled delivery or are already in labor can enter the hospital there rather than having to be admitted through the busy ECC or the main entrance on the other side of the hospital.
“This grew out of us listening to moms,” said Floyd President and CEO Kurt Stuenkel. “A couple years back we did focus groups with moms who delivered here and asked them what they thought about our facilities and our services and we got some very valuable feedback. One of the things we learned was that moms to be really wanted a designated entrance.
“We are now going to be able to deliver a service where moms to be can drive right up, get out at this designated entrance and go in,” Stuenkel added.
Floyd Medical Center has also more than doubled the size of the Labor and Delivery waiting area on the third floor. Tours of that area were given Monday after the ribbon-cutting.
Floyd has been delivering babies for nearly 80 years and the hospital’s expert, caring team is dedicated to creating best experience possible – from family education to childbirth to newborn care and beyond – all in a safe, family-centered state-of-the-art environment.
Floyd Medical Center is also home to the area’s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that is at the ready 24/7.
