UPDATE: One person was killed in a head-on collision on North Avenue near the Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services building Thursday morning.
According to the Rome Police report, a northbound Volkswagen Jetta driven by 48-year old Michelle Cantu of Rome collided with an eastbound Ford Explorer driven by 28-year old Brittany Allen, also of Rome.
A passenger in the in Jetta, identified as 37-year old Hector Guzman-Guzman of Rome was fatally injured.
Cantu and Allen were both transported to Floyd Medical Center for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
The wreck, which occurred just before 10 a.m., remains under investigation by the Rome Police Department.
Previously Reported: On Thursday morning a two-vehicle head-on-collision occurred on North Avenue near the PAWS building.
Traffic in the area was redirected by the Rome Police Department and the Rome/Floyd Fire Department.
According to first responders on the scene, the occupants of both vehicles were taken by EMS to be evaluated for their injuries, but the extent of those injuries is not known at this time.
Rome Police at the scene stated that they believed speed was not a factor in this accident.
