NEWS RELEASE
Every year, Georgia Power employees and their families honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through community service projects across the state. The annual event is the company’s largest single day of service and emulates our employees’ mission of being, “a citizen of wherever we serve.”
This year, the Citizens of Georgia Power-Rome chapter, Community Foundation for Greater Rome, and the Rome Floyd Chamber of Commerce partnered with several corporate sponsors to have approximately 500 meals delivered to local healthcare facilities from local restaurants on Monday, January 18, 2021, to show appreciation to the frontline healthcare workers in Rome and Floyd County who are working on the front line of the COVID19 pandemic.
This serves as a great way to not only say “thank you” to the heroes working on the frontlines but also as a way to support local restaurants that were affected during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Not just today, but every day our employees continue to build on Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy of service, said Cassandra Wheeler, Georgia Power Regional Director. “Even in these unprecedented times, our community banded together to honor true heroes working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re privileged to partner with other organizations and companies within the Rome-Floyd community to demonstrate our commitment to being a citizen wherever we serve.”
The sponsors include Summit Hill Foods, Toles, Temple & Wright, FP Pigments, Greater Community Bank, The Avenue Wealth Management Group – Raymond James, Synovus, Nichols Cauley, International Paper, and the Rome Floyd Development Authority.
Since 2005, more than 14,000 Georgia Power employees have volunteered for approximately 375 individual MLK Day of Service projects.
