STAFF REPORTS
Freedom was short-lived for a man who ran out of the joint law enforcement center and then jumped into the river.
According to Rome Police, Wesley Scott Furnish was originally in municipal court for a traffic violation.
It was then discovered there was a felony probation warrant for his arrest.
Furnish asked to go to the restroom and that’s when he bolted.
Once in the water, Furnish held onto a log and floated a little while before giving up.
The Rome Fire Department lowered a flotation device into the water and Furnish grabbed on.
He was checked out by EMS before being transported to the Floyd County Jail.
