Man charged with cruelty to an elderly person

A 57-year old Rome man was arrested at his Charleston Drive home Tuesday on a felony count of cruelty to an elderly person.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Ronnie Alan Shaw denied emergency medical services personnel access to the home after an 80-year old woman had called 911 because an 85-year old man in the residence was having chest pains.

He also allegedly grabbed the woman, then shoved and dragged her.

As the woman was attempting to make a second 911 call, Shaw reportedly took the phone away from her.

Shaw is additionally charged with interference with EMS, simple battery against a person over the age of 65 and interference with a 911 call.
