State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says Georgia’s unemployment rate continued to fall in April.

The rate was down by one-tenth of a percent, checking in at 3.8%.

At the same time, claims for unemployment insurance were down when compared to last April.

However, Georgia’s job total fell by 14,900 in April.

“You see this happen from time to time,” Butler said. “Monthly numbers fluctuate. But all the trends look good.”

Rome went against the statewide trend, by adding 200 jobs from March to April, bringing the total to 900 since April of last year.

Taking a look at first-time claims for unemployment insurance, in Floyd County there were 433 in April, up from 344 in March and 158 in April of last year.
