Two arrested following fight on North Broad Street

Two men were arrested Saturday night following a fight at a location on North Broad Street.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 40-year old Desmond Derell Jett of an East 20th Street address in Rome used a box cutter to cut a man on the face, resulting in lacerations and stitches.

Meanwhile, 35-year old Davadrion Lavail Davenport of Lafayette, Georgia is accused of hitting Jett over the head with a liquor bottle.

Jett also had to get stitches.

According to police, all of this was witnessed by a child.

Jett and Davenport are both charged with aggravated assault and 3rd-degree cruelty to children.

The Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force executed a search warrant and found high amounts of drugs.
Trion Police Chief David Gilleland told WZQZ News that the death is still under investigation, but for now, the incident is being treated as a fatal four-wheeler accident.
Several area roads still have standing water on them and some remain closed.
Due to potential flooding that could create unsafe road conditions tomorrow morning, Floyd County Schools will be on a 2-hour delay for all staff and students.
The National Weather Service has extended a flood watch through Friday night.

A shooting took place on Shorter Avenue around 12:45 Wednesday afternoon.
Wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph will be possible through the rest of the day for portions of northern Georgia.
The man was caught on video entering Main Street Grocery and Bait at 6817 N. Main St in Acworth where he held the clerk at gunpoint while taking money from the register.
