Friday morning hurricane update

Florence is making landfall near Wilmington, NC as a Category 1 hurricane with 90 mph sustained winds.

Expected impacts in Georgia remain limited with forecast rainfall in eastern Georgia of over 1" possible with isolated amounts near 2" from late Saturday through Sunday night.

No significant wind impacts are currently expected in Georgia, with eastern areas potentially receiving gusts near or just over 30 mph. 

Trion Police Chief David Gilleland told WZQZ News that the death is still under investigation, but for now, the incident is being treated as a fatal four-wheeler accident.
Several area roads still have standing water on them and some remain closed.
Due to potential flooding that could create unsafe road conditions tomorrow morning, Floyd County Schools will be on a 2-hour delay for all staff and students.
The National Weather Service has extended a flood watch through Friday night.
