Atlanta man arrested in Bartow County on seven counts

Around 3 a.m. Thursday Morning, a call came into Bartow County about a suspicious person using stolen credit cards at the Pilot off Cassville White Road. 
 
According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Department along with Georgia State Patrol, 26-year old Derrick Bernard Burke of Atlanta got onto the 1-75 ramp at mile marker 290 and continued until getting off at exit 290.
 
A PIT maneuver was performed successfully according to Georgia State Patrol and after a short foot pursuit, Burke was captured. 
 
Burke has been charged with Reckless driving, driving under the influence of multiple substances, driving while license suspended or revoked improper lane change/failure to maintain a lane, speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, and a felony charge of attempting to elude a police officer/felony.
 
The Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force executed a search warrant and found high amounts of drugs.
Trion Police Chief David Gilleland told WZQZ News that the death is still under investigation, but for now, the incident is being treated as a fatal four-wheeler accident.
Several area roads still have standing water on them and some remain closed.
Due to potential flooding that could create unsafe road conditions tomorrow morning, Floyd County Schools will be on a 2-hour delay for all staff and students.
The National Weather Service has extended a flood watch through Friday night.

A shooting took place on Shorter Avenue around 12:45 Wednesday afternoon.
Wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph will be possible through the rest of the day for portions of northern Georgia.
The man was caught on video entering Main Street Grocery and Bait at 6817 N. Main St in Acworth where he held the clerk at gunpoint while taking money from the register.
