Rome man behind bars after a failed bribery attempt

A Rome man has been jailed after trying to convince officers to let him out of a traffic stop. 
 
According to Rome Police, 40-year old Ashley Alton Diamond of a Woodward St address was initially stopped by Rome Police for a mirror equipment violation. 
 
Diamond reportedly tried to bribe an officer that he would “do anything” to let him go. 
 
Diamond was arrested and charged with bribery, driving on a suspended license and mirror equipment violation. 
 
According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, the accident was between a Chevrolet Silverado and a tractor-trailer.
On Saturday, Bartow County EMS and Fire responded to an accident on State Route 140 near Big Oak Tree Road in Adairsville involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger car.
